This is the only museum outside China exclusively dedicated to the Terracotta Warriors. The terracotta warriors created worldwide fascination when discovered in 1974 at Xian, China. Now regarded as the 8th Wonder of the Ancient World, the terracotta warriors guarded the tomb of the First Emperor of China, Qin Shi Huangdi, who lived over 2200 years ago.
The museum displays unique replicas of the terracotta warriors re-created by museum technicians at the site in Xian. There are various types including crossbowmen, a charioteer, an officer and a general. The whole group of warriors is extremely impressive. Audio programmes inform visitors as to their type and origins.

The Old Crown Court & Cells Tel: 01305 252241 Open from end July to middle of September. Monday to Friday 2-4pm. Wednesdays from 10am-noon. Private group bookings available all year round. High West Street, Dorchester. Fascinating experience, encompassing four centuries of crime and punishment. This is a place most famous for the trial of the six Tolpuddle Martyrs in 1834 who were sentenced and eventually transported to Australia - the court remains almost as it was at that time. Sit in the dimly-lit cells where prisoners once waited for their appearance before the judge.
The Roman Town House Tel: 01305 262735 Open all year admission free. Colliton Park, Dorchester Of the many Roman buildings discovered in Dorchester (DVRNOVARIA) this is the best preserved and was excavated in 1936/9, prior to the building of County Hall. Recently the site was re-excavated revealing a range of mosiac floors and these are now protected by buildings with a reconstructed Roman roof. Many excavation finds are on display in the County Museum.
